I recently inherited a wine collection and I don’t know how to get rid of it

Main Post:

Hi, I recently inherited a couple cases of wine, say 45 bottles from a colleague. Don’t exactly know why, as I don’t drink. As of right now I’m looking to sell the collection as it’s looks like it would go for $50-$60k based on my google searches. I’m calling wine stores and finding out the won’t buy wine like that. Can anyone recommend some suggestions on how to sell wine? Thanks in advance!

Top Comment: Very few wines are going to come out worth $1000+ a bottle, and basically zero of them if you can't show they've been stored well over their lifetime. I mean, it's possible if you're sitting on a stash of Domaine Romanee-Conti or Screaming Eagle. A lot will depend on the age and the provenance. I would go to winebid.com and type in the name/year for a couple of them and see what it says, and then assume you will get 70% of that if the wine has good provenance, and more like 30% of that if you try to sell privately. Wine is more resilient than people sometimes give it credit for, but a lot can go wrong over time, and before someone hands you $1000 for a bottle, they are going to want to be pretty sure that wine is in good condition. I've sold a fair bit of aged wine over time, feel free to DM me if I can help with more info.

Muslim worker refuses to sell ham and wine to customer in Tesco in Neasden

If the hams packaged and the wines in a bottle- then just get on with it.

Ramadan is not a reason to be a prick all your life.

edit: If it was his own business, I'd have it, but it isn't. Being muslim, an employee and selling alcohol etc to others is not against your faith- ignorance of your own faith is,as is intolerance, voting ukip or reading the Daily Mail :-)

Best way to sell wine?

Main Post:

All,

I was wondering, but what is the best way to sell wine? I am located in the Houston area and my collection right now is worth about $1,500-$2,000. Outside of selling to a broker, what is the easiest way to sell wine? forums? craigslist? ebay?

Thanks for your input. I'm trying to simplify my life and I have a Vinotemp VT-58 plus a bunch of wine I am trying to move, so I appreciate the input. I know this probably isn't the best thing my fellow wine enthusiasts want to hear but I'm trying to take a different direction in my life.

Thanks again.

Top Comment: Hate to tell you, but person-to-person sales are illegal. In order to do it legally, you'll have to use a broker.

Selling homemade wine.

Main Post:

Has anyone sold any of their wine? does anyone sell it regularly? I'm confident my wine is good, My friends and family enjoy it a lot. and I could make a few hundred litres a week. I was thinking about selling it to restaurants as an organic cheap wine. but I don't know how realistic it is to maybe do it as a full time job and sell it to restaurants and make decent money from it. ( Decent In terms of I can pay my bills and live a normal life )

I make a litre for $1.30 or £1 and I could sell it from around $5 or £4 to $13 or £10 a bottle. I think that is in a reasonable price range.

I'm just looking for advice, thoughts and opinions. even If you don't sell wine.

Top Comment: Not sure where you are but I'm sure there's all sorts of regulations on selling alcohol.

I sell wine for a living - need help?

Main Post:

I just started at a new job as a wine advisor. I am young and not too experienced with wine as beer is a drink of choice among men my age.

I sell to a list of subscribers to our wine club, so the people i speak to obviously range from what they know about wine and how much they spend per bottle.

What would be the best way to describe a wine to make it more enticing? Because im new to the wine world im not sure what to really say about the wine that fits their price range and favourite varietal. Any pointers?

Top Comment:

Oh, brother. Somebody hired you to sell wine over the phone, even though you are "young and not too experienced." I'd like to know who you're working for, because they don't seem to care whether you succeed or fail. In any event, here is a list of wines with their typical descriptors, courtesy of the Wine & Spirits Education Trust. Hope it helps.

How would I sell a vintage bottle of wine?

Main Post:

I am in NY State (Nassau County)

I am a graphic designer and did quite a bit of work for a client who couldn't pay the last $500 she owed me so she gave me a bottle of 1968 Chateau Lafite Rothschild to settle up. I knew it was the wine or $0 so I chose the wine. The wine was kept in her cool basement with a few other bottles she threw in (less valuable but nice french wines) since 2002.

I like wine but I need to buy a CNC Machine and I am hoping to sell this bottle to help fund that - is there a 'Wine Ebay' Should I go to a local wine store that carried vintage and talk to them? Is that even legal? FYI I'm 30 so I am of legal age to buy/possess

Top Comment: You can't privately sell. You have to sell through a licensed seller. The problem is that usually they want lots of a certain value. i.e. I think winebid.com wants a $2500 minimum. 1968 wasn't a great year in Bordeaux. I see that the same bottle was in stock at K&L for $599, so that's retail pricing. Cut that price for the undocumented history, and subtract fees, and you're lucky to clear $300. I find some higher prices in wine-searcher but they're mostly in Asia.

Is there anywhere to sell liquor and wine?

Main Post:

I was gifted about 20 bottles of various liquor, quite a few of them worth a bunch of money.

I'm not a drinker. Would love to flip these somehow. ANY place legally that I can do that, or am I stuck with it (to regift with)?

Top Comment: Craigslist. Sell your own sketches. Each sketch comes with a complimentary bottle of liquor. Those unable to present ID will receive a free chocolate bar. Price doodles accordingly.

Selling wine online

Main Post:

Has anyone ever done it? I went on a winery tour a few years back and picked up a great bottle of red that sells for over $500/bottle in China. If I can't sell it I'll drink and enjoy it, but 10x investment would be nice if it's possible.

Top Comment:

winebid is the sort of ebay of wine (ebay doesn't allow alcohol sales).

Selling isn't the hard part, but you're going to have to lie to UPS/FEDEX to ship it, because they won't accept wine from casual shippers.
